treatment effect

— Best estimate of the outcomes that can be ascribed to the use of a treatment

Full explanation:

Almost all treatments have unwanted as well as hoped for effects. Research to provide estimates of the effects of treatments is essential to find out about the hoped for effects, and to reduce the risks of inadvertent suffering, and deaths of those for whom the treatments are prescribed.
